Safeguarding in Government

What we offer

Local councils, shires, state and territory government departments have a duty to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults using public services and programs.

Safeguarding Services provides policy and framework design, systemic reviews, independent investigations, compliance advice and tailored training, plus stakeholder consultation and interagency coordination to improve outcomes and maintain public trust.

Safeguarding Services partners with government agencies across all tiers – local councils and shires, state and territory departments, and Commonwealth agencies – to support the protection of children, young people, and vulnerable persons within public services and community-facing operations.

Our Role in Government Safeguarding

We assist government leaders to move beyond procedural compliance, strengthening institutional capability to identify, prevent, and respond to harm through systems that are transparent, accountable, and defensible.

Common Challenges for Government Organisations

Through our work with government organisations nationally, we see recurring themes:

False confidence in compliance

Councils and government departments may have policies, but not consistent practice.

Unclear reporting pathways

Staff can be uncertain about how and when to escalate concerns.

Leadership fatigue

Leaders and HR teams face constant pressure managing complex conduct issues.

Cultural silos

Departments sometimes operate in isolation.

Regulatory complexity

Different standards, schemes and oversight bodies can create confusion.

Strengthening Safeguarding Capability in a Local Council Environment

Safeguarding Services partnered with a metropolitan local council to review child safety policies and procedures, deliver targeted training to executive and operational leaders, and align governance and oversight structures with applicable Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct Scheme obligations. The engagement resulted in measurable improvements in staff awareness, confidence in identifying and reporting concerns, and organisational readiness to meet regulatory and community expectations across all council services.
