We support sports organisations of all sizes to strengthen their safeguarding culture, respond appropriately to concerns and meet their obligations under national and state child safety and integrity frameworks. Our work in child safeguarding in sport is practical, proportionate and tailored to the structure and needs of each organisation.
Our Role in Safeguarding Sports Organisations
Sport plays an important role in building connection and belonging - but those same environments also carry safeguarding responsibilities.
Our role is to help sporting organisations create safer, more respectful and inclusive spaces where everyone can participate without fear of harm or misconduct.
We provide consulting, training and independent investigations that help clubs:
- Understand and meet the National Integrity Framework
- Comply with Child Safe Standards and local safeguarding regulations
- Build confidence in reporting and responding to concerns
- Support volunteers and committees to manage safeguarding effectively
Common Safeguarding Challenges in Community Sport
Through our work with community sporting organisations across Australia, we see consistent themes:
Unclear boundaries
Between coaching, mentoring and friendship roles
Lack of formal reporting pathways
For safeguarding concerns
Limited training
For volunteers and committee members
Uncertainty
About when and how to escalate issues
Reliance on informal communication
Leading to inconsistent responses
Safeguarding Services helps clubs and associations put practical systems in place to prevent issues before they occur
– and to respond confidently when they do.
A sporting organisation safeguarding review can identify gaps in policies, reporting processes, governance and day-to-day safeguarding practice before those gaps lead to greater risk.

Our Process
Step 1
Review and Consultation
We start by understanding your club’s structure, culture and existing policies. Where appropriate, this may include a sporting organisation safeguarding review of current systems, responsibilities and reporting pathways.
Step 2
Policy and Framework Development
We design or update safeguarding and integrity frameworks that reflect your club’s values and obligations.
Step 3
Training and Communication
We train coaches, team managers, parents and volunteers to build confidence and awareness.
Step 4
Ongoing Support and Assurance
We remain available for independent advice, reviews or investigations when required. Our sports safeguarding investigations are conducted impartially, sensitively and with a clear understanding of sporting environments.
Embedding Child Safety in a Regional Sporting Association
A regional sporting body engaged Safeguarding Services to review its safeguarding policies and complaint-handling procedures. We developed a clear reporting framework, trained over 80 club representatives and provided templates for codes of conduct and incident response. The result was a stronger culture of safety, transparency and accountability across more than 20 affiliated community clubs.
