Child Safe Standard 6 – Child Abuse & Child Safety Standards Training

Section 12(5)(a) of Ministerial Order 870 states:

At least annually, the school governing authority must ensure that appropriate guidance and training is provided to the individual members of the school governing authority and school staff about:

  • individual and collective obligations and responsibilities for managing the risk of child abuse;
  • child abuse risks in the school environment; and
  • the school’s current child safety standards (policies, code of conduct, procedures etc.)

In recent years, the legislative requirements surrounding child safety and child protection have become very complex and difficult to easily navigate for staff and institutions. Safeguarding Services has specifically developed training to ensure staff are competent in all facets of this important area and are competent in understanding their reporting requirements. Training covers:

  • The risks of child abuse in the school environment and how to manage them
  • The School’s Current Child Safety Standards
  • Mandatory Reporting
  • Reportable Conduct
  • Child Abuse
  • Grooming
  • Victorian Laws

This training program meets the requirements of Child Safe Standard 6.
